Brake Controller Installation Time and Ease On 2006 Coachman Class C Motor Home With Prodigy P2
Question:
I just bought a 2006 26 ft Coachmen Class c motorhome, witha 3500 pound trailer hitch already installed in the rear, with the wires necessary to plug my Cargo Trailer in running lights My cargo trailer does have electric brakes. The motor home does NOT have a brake controller box. Qustion 1 Could I install the brake controller box myself? I am not familiar with electrical systems in vehicles Question 2 How long should it take a qualified installer to install it, being that the hitch is already wired up and ready to go??? Thanks!!!

Yes, you can install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, # 90885, that you selected on your 2006 Coachman Class C 26ft motor home using a 3500 pound trailer hitch. It will work perfectly for you and is highly recommended because it applies brake pressure in proportion to the brake force being applied to the vehicle.
The install for a brake controller like this will probably take between 3 and 4 hours mainly due to running the wires through the vehicle.
To complete the installation you will also need the 7-way installation kit, part # ETBC7, which is shown below. The kit comes with all the necessary hardware, wires, and 40 amp circuit breakers to run the wires to before connecting to the battery.
I have also included a link to an install video of the # ETBC7 Brake Controller installation kit on a pickup truck that is very descriptive to assist you in your install. We also have detailed instructions on our FAQ page that I have linked.
