Are Modifications Needed When Installing Trailer Hitch On 2016 Toyota RAV4
Question:
Hi, I just got a brand new 2016 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. I just want to make sure this hitch will fit for sure without any modifications before I buy it. 2016 Toyota RAV4 Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2. Please advise.

We have not had a chance to install the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C13149 on a 2016, but we have installed it on a 2015 which is the same generation and should be very similar. This trailer hitch has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. I have attached a link to the installation video you can check out.
In the installation instructions it does state if there is a trim panel present, it will need to be temporarily removed and trimmed per the trim panel diagram. The tie-down bracket on the driver's side will also need to be removed and will not be re-installed.
If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
If you need trailer wiring on your RAV4 I recommend part # 118578. This plugs in to the vehicle wiring behind the trim panels in the rear cargo area and then you simply run a hot lead wire to the positive battery post with the included inline fuse. I have attached a link to an installation video for this harness.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
