Recommended Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control for 14 foot V Nose Trailer

Question:

I own a 14 ft V-nose trailer Im looking for a complete wd with sway control I can install on my trailer. This trailer when loaded really causes my truck to squat in the back and its like pulling 2 other trucks. My friend owns the same trailer with a Curt wd with sway control and most of the time you cant tell his trailers back there. We were not sure what model is installed on his other than the name Curt on it. Any info or help would be appreciated. thanks

To choose a weight distribution system, you'll need to first determine the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer. To that figure, add the weight of any gear stowed in the truck bed behind the rear axle. I've linked to an FAQ article that explains how to do this. These combined figures represent the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your set-up. The TTW of your trailer should fall as close as possible to the middle of the effective range of the weight distribution system you choose.

For enclosed trailers, I highly recommend using a weight distribution system that includes a sway control component. Enclosed trailers provide a good cross-section for crosswinds and turbulence from passing or oncoming traffic to act upon which leads to trailer sway.

The Curt TruTrack would be a good choice if the trailer tongue weight is between 800-1000 lbs. If your fully loaded tongue weight is less than that, you'd want to go with a different system. Fastway makes a great series of weight distribution systems that work just like the TruTrack, but are available in various ranges of trailer tongue weights. If the trailer tongue weight is less than 450 lbs, use part # FA92-00-0450. If the trailer tongue weight is between 450-800 lbs, use part # FA92-00-0800.

The TruTrack is sold complete with a 2-5/16 ball. The Fastway systems include everything but the hitch ball. For a 2 inch ball, use part # EQ91-00-6080 or # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch ball.
