Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring For 2001 Toyota Tundra With Towing Package
Question:
I am purchasing a travel trailer and will be towing it with my 2001 Tundra 4X4 Access Cab pickup. I currently have a towing package with a 4 pin connector that I use to tow my boat. I need to install a 7 pin connector that will support the travel trailer electric brakes. I believe I will need an electric brake controller and 7 pin connector kit. Please provide advise on what you recommend and can you provide complete installation instructions?

We have just what you need to install a brake controller on your 2001 Tundra.
I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller, part # 90885. This is our most popular brake controller because it is easy to install and operate.
You will also need part # ETBC7. This plugs into the factory 4-way connector you have and with additional wiring gives you a 7-way trailer connector and also a 4-way you can use. I have attached a link to an installation video for a brake controller on a 2002 Tundra you can check out.
I have also attached a drawing that shows how the wiring is done when installing a brake controller you can take a look at.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
