Can a Brake Controller be Installed in the Console Pocket on a 2004 Ford F-250

Question:

Hello, I have a 2004 F-250 and I am looking for a brake controller that will fit in the small dash pocket next to the lighter. I noticed in your install videos that you usually screw them on with a bracket just below this dash pocket. Really I am just looking for a much cleaner install.

Proportional brake controllers need to be mounted in a specific orientation which is why they have mounting brackets. If a proportional controller is not mounted according to the specifications in the installation instructions then it will have erratic behavior.

But if you go with a time delay brake controller such as # C74VV then it just has to be within easy reach of the driver and doesn't have to be fixed in position. This would allow you to put the controller in that small pocket.

If you go with one of the above controllers you will also need a wiring harness to plug the controller directly into the truck. For Curt brake controller # C74VV you will need # C51322. For the Draw-Tite Activator, # 5520, you will need # 3035-P. I have included a link to information on brake controllers as well.
