Roof Mount Cargo Bag Recommendation for a 2001 Mazda Protege
Question:
I need a carrier for a trip from CO to CA. Lots of miles and 4 people in a Mazda protege. Can I put the 18 cu. Ft. Bag on my vehicle or do I buy the 9 cu Ft. One?

The 18 cubic foot Rightline cargo bag # RL100S30 might be a little too large for the roof of your 2001 Mazda Protégé. But you can measure the roof to find out for sure. This bag measures 48 inches long, 40 inches wide, and is 19 inches tall. If the roof is at least 48 x 40 inches then this bag would fit.
If it is too large you could step down to the 15 cubic foot model, # RL100S20, which is 44 inches long and 36 inches wide. I am sure that one of these 2 bags will work.
For any of them I recommend protective pad # RL100650 to protect the roof and help keep the bag in place during starts and stops.
Be sure to consult the vehicle owner's manual and/or Mazda for the roof weight carrying capacity prior to loading.
