5th Wheel Trailer Rides High in the Front When Coupled to 2016 Ram 4x4
Question:
I have a Reese 16K 5th wheel hitch that was installed in a 2014 Tundra and it turns out that the Tundra cant handle the payload of the 5th wheel. Purchased a 2016 RAM 4x4 that sits quite a bit higher, the RAM has the puck system and so I purchased the Reese RP30154 kit from you folks, installed it and moved the Reese 16K to the RAM, lowered the hitch head adjustment as far down as it can go and can hitch up OK but the nose of the 5th wheel is setting high. The king pin is a Reese 10K Revolution by Lippert Components. Are there adjustments to the king pin that can be made to level out the 5th wheel? The RP30154 kit seems to add about the same height as the original bed rails that were used in the Tundra so no real change there, not sure what the difference in height is between the RAM 4x4 and the Tundra Double Cab but it appears thats the amount I would need to lower the front of the 5th wheel. Sorry to be so wordy, just wanted to give as much info as I could. Thanks for any help you can provide,

There are adjustments on most pin boxes that you can make to adjust the ride height some. Basically, where the Revolution pin box bolts to the trailer check to see if you can raise it any higher. If there are unused bolt holes above where the pin box is mounted now then it can be raised up. This will lower the front of the trailer.
The other option is to raise the height at the rear of the trailer. If you do think raising the trailer in the back is the way to go then you may be able to use an over/under conversion kit if:
The trailer leaf spring stack is mounted under the axles
The trailer uses double-eye springs
And the trailer has 2-3/8 inch or 3 inch diameter round axles
For a 2-3/8 inch round axle use # K71-384-00 and for a 3 inch diameter axle use # K71-385-00.
If you cannot use an over/under conversion kit then the only other way to raise the height of the trailer is to have the old suspension hangers cut off and new, taller ones welded on by a qualified professional welder. I have included a link to the hanger main page for you.
