Will Demco HiJacker 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Fit Reese Adapter for 2015 Ram 2500 w/OEM Prep Package

Question:

Hi, I have a 2015 Ram 2500 with the fifth wheel prep package. I have the Reese RP30154 Adapter. Will the Demco DM8550034 work with the Adapter I have? Also, The Reese Adapter looks taller than the Demco adapter. Do you know the height difference? My truck sits pretty high and Im trying to keep the hitch as low as possible. It says the lowest setting is 15 1/4. Does that include the height of the rails, or is that just the height of just the fifth wheel?

The Demco HiJacker 5th wheel trailer hitch # DM8550034 mounts in industry standard above the bed rails which is what the slots are in the adapter # RP30154 adapter for your 2015 Ram 2500 with factory prep package.

The height is from the bottom of the base where it makes contact with the rails to the top of the hitch so it would not include the rails. The height of the adapter you have and the Demco adapter is about the same; approximately 2 inches. If height is an issue I have a couple of solutions for you.

First, you could skip the adapters altogether and go with a hitch that mounts directly to the pucks in the truck, # BWRVK3600. But this is a fixed hitch, not a slider. But this hitch has the most adjustability so you could assemble it so that the there is more clearance between the trailer and the truck cab (at most it can be mounted 4 inches back from center).

Another option is to raise the height of the pin box on the trailer. Most pin boxes can be adjusted up and down as needed.

And if none of those options work you can raise the height at the back of the trailer. If you do think raising the trailer in the back is the way to go then you may be able to use an over/under conversion kit if:

The trailer leaf spring stack is mounted under the axles
The trailer uses double-eye springs
And the trailer has 2-3/8 inch or 3 inch diameter round axles

For a 2-3/8 inch round axle use # K71-384-00 and for a 3 inch diameter axle use # K71-385-00.

If you cannot use an over/under conversion kit then the only other way to raise the height of the trailer is to have the old suspension hangers cut off and new, taller ones welded on by a qualified professional welder. I have included a link to the hanger main page for you.
