To install the brake controller, you'll need the # 3034-P brake controller wiring harness, regardless of whether the truck has the 4-pole or 7-way trailer connector. The wiring harness would connect the brake controller to the plug under the dash.
If your truck has the factory 7-way connector on the rear bumper, it would look like part # HM40975. If that's the case, you'd plug in the brake controller, and the installation would be complete.
If your truck only has the 4-pole or 4-pin trailer connector you'd need an adapter part # 37185 to complete the installation. The adapter would plug into your existing 4-pole, and the 4 remaining wires would need to be connected. The white wire would ground to the truck's frame. The blue and black wire would connect to tow package wiring on the driver's side frame rail. Follow the wire for the factory 4-pole connector to the point where it plugs in on the frame rail. Past the connector, remove the wire loom and look for a red (or orange) and a blue wire. The black wire from the adapter would connect to the red or orange wire and the blue adapter wire would connect to the blue wire. The purple wire taps into the reverse lamp circuit, but if you don't need the wire, you can simply bundle it up out of the way.
