Recommendation for Malfunctioning Landing Gear Leg on a 2007 Keystone Montana 38 Foot 5th Wheel

Question:

We recently purchased a 2007 38 ft Montana 5th wheel. When we try to use the landing gear, it is blowing the 40 amp fuses. It is very hard to crank up and down. Gear box model # 1-065-041012-01, looks ok. The motor, model # 1A-065012-02-01, it seems to work ok when there is no load on it. Unable to find a # on the landing gear, it measures 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 29 1/2. Could you please advise and suggest a solution. Thank you.

I can help you with your landing gear issue.

What could be happening is that the main screw and nut are bent or stripped inside the landing gear leg. It could also be the gears at the top of the leg are bad.

I spoke with Lippert and according to them they have a custom set of replacement legs made specifically for the Keystone Montana RV Line. Unfortunately there are no replacement parts like the bolt and nut that for this leg. I would recommend replacing the landing gear. I would start with replacing the lead leg, since the other components seem to but functioning okay. Once installed you will be able to identify if the follow leg will need replacement or is still in working condition.

The specific OEM replacement legs for the Keystone Montana's are Follow Leg # LC178652 and the Lead Leg # LC178653. Because of their unique designs they will be the only ones that fit the Montana. The replacement motor for the Keystone Montana is # LG-142178.

I have linked all the parts mentioned above for your convenience.
