Compatibility of Curt Wiring Harness 56083 on a 2016 Lexus RX 450h without the Tow Package

Hi, I bought 2016 Lexus RX 450h which did come without factory tow package larger radiator and other parts. I do not plan to tow heavy trailer just a small utility trailer, so my car does not need extra tow capacity. Would Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part #56083 work on my car from the electrical point of view? thanks.

I can help you figure out if the Curt # 56083 will work for your 2016 Lexus RX 450h.

If you do not have the tow package on your Lexus it is unlikely that you will have the plug for the wiring harness already run for you. I would definitely check, it will probably be towards the back of the rear bumper and may be under a panel, you can also call a local Lexus dealer and ask them if your car is equipped with the plug or not. If you do have the plug the # 56083 will work for you.

If you do not have the plug, I have a solution for you. The Curt # C59236 would be the perfect solution for your 2016 Lexus RX 450h. I spoke with my contact at Curt and he verified that this harness will work for your vehicle. This universal harness will hardwire directly into your vehicle's wiring and bypass the factory tow package setup.

In addition to wiring, to tow a small utility trailer you will need a hitch, if you don't already have a hitch on your vehicle, I recommend the Curt # C13143, it is the custom hitch for your vehicle. Some other items you may need to tow your utility trailer are a ball mount like # C45030, a pin and clip like # C21500, and a ball. Two of the most common sizes of coupler balls on small utility trailers are the 1-7/8 inch # 19260 and the 2 inch # 63845.
