How To Install LED Trailer License-Plate Light LPL55CB  

Question:

hi there I replaced my trailer lights last year,and it passed a warrent.however I have just taken it back for a warrent and it failed,it failed because it hasnt got a licence plate light,although it passed last time without. My question is can the licence plate number light be wired into the exsisting back lights,without starting from the front to the back. Kind regards

You can wire a license plate light like part # LPL55CB without running wiring up to the front of the trailer.

You simply attach the white wire with the ring terminal to a clean, bare metal surface like the trailer frame, and then attach the black wire to the running light wire that leads to the tail light. You can attach the black wire to the trailer tail light circuit (usually a brown wire).

If you are unsure which wire the tail light circuit is, an easy way to check is to attach the trailer connector to the vehicle, turn on the head lights and use a circuit tester like part # 3808 to check the wires. You would attach the black wire from the # LPL55CB to the wire that has power only when the lights are on, using a quick splice connector like part # SWC502905-1 to connect.
