Adapter to Tow a Trailer and Carry a Bike Rack at the Same Time on a 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I currently have a Reese #21794 Hitch with Length=10 inches, Drop=5-1/4, Rise=4, Class III, Capacity 5000lb, 2x2inch hitch. I have a 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport Double Cab 4WD truck that tows a 5x8foot Homesteader Enclosed Trailer. I would like to tow this trailer and have a dual hitch with a bike rack. Will the Roadmaster Dual Hitch and Prorack combination work for my current application? Thanks

I have a solution for you but the Roadmaster adapters including # RM-077-4 are not rated for use when towing a trailer. The similar adapters that are rated for towing a trailer will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent so I do not recommend them.

Instead I recommend the Curt multipurpose ball mount # D210. Tow the trailer with the ball mount part and use the upper receiver for a bike rack. The combined weight of the trailer tongue weight and the loaded bike rack cannot exceed 750 pounds. Since this is a ball mount and not an adapter it does not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch. I have linked a video review of this ball mount for you.
