Parts to Install Brake Controller and 7-Way Trailer Wiring in 2014 Toyota Sienna

Question:

yes - starting from scratch. 2014 Toyota Sienna. my camper has a 7 pole connector with electric brakes. I plan on using the wireless Tekonsha Prodigy RF # 90250 I also will be installing the 75696 Draw-Tite Class 3 Trailer Hitch Receiver - Max-Frame I assume I need to install a curt trailer wire kit 56106 CURT T-Connector - Surface Mount Technology - 4 Wire. I also plan on using the 47185B Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole - Hopkins # 47185B, TAP # 37185. On reading the instructions - I see that I need to run a power cord, to the battery, for the 4 curt wiring kit and also one for the 4 pole to 7 pole adapter. Is this all necessary? I there a better plan??? help, thanks.

In order for your Sienna to activate the electric drum brakes on your trailer it will need to have a 7-way trailer socket. This connector carries lighting signals, 12V maintenance power for the trailer's battery (or power for it's lights) as well as the signal to activate the trailer brakes when you slow the Sienna. You'll also need a trailer brake controller.

If the Sienna does not have a 4-pole flat trailer connector then you'll also need one of those. You can use the Curt part you referenced, kit # C56106. The linked video and article illustrate installation, particularly the process of routing that power wire up to the battery.

Once you have the 4-pole in place you can use our trailer brake controller install kit, part # ETBC7. This includes all parts needed to convert the 4-pole to a 7-way (no adapters will be needed) that will carry all the signals for your trailer.

The controller I recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This controller offers the best mix of proven reliability with user-friendly features and it even has the flexibility to work with both electric brake and EOH (electric-over-hydraulic) braking systems. The ETBC7 kit includes all the parts you'll need to complete the installation.
