Tire Chain Recommendation for 2016 Acura MDX 2WD for Winter Travel in Mountainous Areas
Question:
Looking into Glacier PW2029C tire chains for my 2016 Acura MDX 2-wheel drive 245, 55R19. Dont expect to use them but just in case for travel to mountains. 1 Typically do I need 1 or 2 pair of chains 2 or 4 wheels for this car 2 How necessary is the PW99 accessory for tension with this 3 Is there another product I should be looking at for as needed rare chain use with my MDX. I picked this one because it had fairly positive reviews. Thanks for your help.

Your 245/55R19 tires are one of the standard sizes offered on the 2016 Acura MDX and we do offer a range of tire chains for this size that can be seen on the linked page. The options include both the special low-profile S-Class type required by many passenger cars with limited wheel well clearance, chains like Titan Square Link # TC2324 and the Glacier # PW2029C that you referenced.
Since your need is for a just-in-case set of chains I suggest an S-Class chain like the simple cable type # PW2029C or for better performance should you actually have to install and use them, the only moderately more costly Titan # TC2324. These will perform better than cable types and they will also be easier to install on the tires. These chains have built-in tensioners so you would not have to deal with that extra expense and complexity if you opt for the Titans. If you go for the Glacier chains then definitely use the recommended tensioner.
You'll want to check the owner's manual for the car for any guidance regarding tire chain usage. Some cars will only be able to use chains on one axle or the other so consult your manual. If you can use chains on all four tires doing so will give you the best handling in snowy conditions since this will ensure the rear and front tires have equal traction. This will help with steering and braking performance as well as with traction.
