There may be a wiring harness that you can buy from the Harley Davidson dealer that will plug in to wiring under the seat and make wiring your 2010 Harley Davidson UltraClassic easier and keep you from having to tap into the motorcycles wiring.
Whether you use the OEM adapter or not there are two situations for wiring Motorcycles for towing a trailer. The trailer will determine whether you need to use a converter or not.
If the trailer has a standard 4-Way connector, like you mentioned, and tail lights that combine the stop and turn signals (most trailers in the U.S.) then you will need to use a converter. You can use the Upgraded Taillight Converter with 4 Pole End, item # HM48925, to convert the motorcycle 3 wire system down to a 2 wire system that combines stop and turn signal. You may want to consider using a Powered Modulite Converter, item # C59496, for this application. This converter is powered by the battery on the bike and will protect the bikes sensitive circuitry from overload when towing. I have provided installation instructions below.
If the trailer you plan to tow has separate yellow turn signal lights installed on it then you will need to use a 5 wire connector on the motorcycle and the trailer. The Pollak 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Socket, Concealed Terminals - Chrome - Vehicle End, item # PK11502, and the Pollak 5-Pole, Round Pin Trailer Wiring Connector - Chrome - Trailer End, item # PK11501, can be used to wire the bike and trailer. The fifth wire is used to wire the dedicated stoplight circuit from the motorcycle to the trailer.
