Should a 9 Inch Long or 12 Inch Long Shank Be Used with Weight Distribution and Ram Pickup Truck

Question:

I currently have a sway pro on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is 9inch long with 6 holes on the vertical. I am using the bottom holes for my trailer hitch. I am replacing the GC with a full size RAM pickup. The RAM hitch receiver is approx 2inch higher. I think I need a new receiver with 9 inch drop but I dont know if I should use the 9inch long version or the 12inch long version. Your thoughts??

Expert Reply:

Going with the longer weight distribution shank would not be a problem and the little bit of additional clearance could be beneficial for turning or potentially for lowering the tailgate. That is why I recommend the 12 inch shank, # EQ90-02-4400.
