What do I need to Flat Tow A 2001 Ford Explorer in the Least Expensive Manner
Question:
I am looking at the falcon 2 towbar, what all would I need to tow my 2001 ford explorer and I would not have to disconnect the driveshaft to tow it this way do I. Also, I dont have much money to do this so what would be the cheapest for me to tow it, a different towbar?

I am not sure if you will have to disconnect the drive shaft. This varies from vehicle to vehicle and drive line packages within that vehicle. Consult the Explorer Owner Manual to see what will be involved in flat towing your Explorer.
The least expensive flat tow route I would recommend is using the Roadmaster Tracker Tow bar, part # RM-020. You will also need base plates that attach to the frame of the Explorer and provide a mounting location for the tow bar. Roadmaster XL Base Plates, part # 469-1 is what I would use. If you have an Explorer Sport, 2 dr., you would need part # 474-1.
You also need safety cables like part # RM-645. These are a requirement by the DOT. You will also need some sort of light kit. The least expensive and easiest to install would be a temporary magnetic light kit like part # RM-2120 that you can set on the bumper.
These are all the parts that you will definitely need. Depending on the state/states you will be towing in, you may also need a supplemental braking system. Some states require them for flat towed vehicles. Check with the DOT for the state/states you will be towing in and see if a brake system is necessary. I have added a link to our brake systems below.
