Can Spare Tire Carrier # 413200 Be Bolted to a Utility Trailer and How Does the Tire Mount to It

Question:

I have a 5x10 utility trailer that has 15 inch tires with 6 lug wheels. I want to mount a spare tire on it.This trailer has sides and ramp. I have a tongue mounted tool box, so I cannot mount the spare tire there. I am thinking about mounting it on the side of the trailer just forward of the fender. Would the mount that usually welds to the goose neck of a horse trailer work? On that mount, how does it bolt the wheel on?

If you have an enclosed utility trailer, you could bolt on the Spare Tire Carrier, # 413200, to the side provided that you were to re-enforce the area where the carrier is to be mounted. You can do this by attaching wood cross braces inside the trailer between vertical frame posts. Then, when you bolt the carrier to the outside, you would bolt it through the side of the trailer and into the wood cross braces. You will have to drill holes in the carrier in order to bolt it into place.

If you have an open trailer with angle iron rails, you can weld the carrier to it or bolt the carrier into place.

In either case, enclosed or open, you would then use wheel bolts and studs to attach the spare tire to the front of the carrier. I have included a link to the wheel bolt main page and lug nut page below.
