How To Wire The Hopkins Adapter, # 37185, To The Cut Trailer Wiring Harness On A 2005 Chevy Tahoe
Question:
I just purchased a 2005 Chevy Tahoe and the 7 blade plug was removed and the wiring cut. I am trying to replace the 7 blade plug but do not know what color wires in the factory harness needs to go where on the new plug. Any help would be appreciated.

You are going to need to use a circuit tester, # PTW2993, to test the wires on the factory wiring harness to be able to determine which wire will connect to which wire on the Hopkins Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, OEM Style, # 37185.
The wire colors on the 4-Pole connector are:
1.White is the ground
2.Brown is the taillights/running lights
3.Yellow is the Left Side brake /turn signal
4.Green is the Right-Side brake/turn signal
The extra wires for the 7-Way connection are:
1.White is ground to vehicle frame
2.Blue is electric brakes, connects to brake controller
3.Black is 12-volt power, connects directly to battery
4.Purple is auxiliary, for reverse lights if needed
You could use the Draw-Tite 7-Way Pre-Wired Car Connector, # 20023, to wire directly to your wiring harness and replace the OEM connector and the 7-Way connector. It comes with a 7-foot length of wire, so some of the wire would have to be cut off. You will still want to test the wires on your vehicles wiring harness to make sure you get the right wires connected.
I am sending a link to a video of this Draw-Tite connector being installed on a 1998 Chevy Silverado which will show the wiring connections. It is a different vehicle, but it is the same wiring connections.
If your 2005 Chevy Tahoe has the OEM round connector located underneath the vehicle above the spare tire, and the wires were cut between where the 7-Way was located and the OEM connector then you will be able to use the Hopkins Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connectors, # 30955.
