Why Doesn't the Stoplight Circuit Used for Install of SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Come from Trailer Wiring

Question:

I had a question about product SM99251. I am wanting to install on my ford excursion, and was wondering if there is an alternate way for the detection of a brake signal? I dont like the idea of having to use a light detector rather than having a hard wire into the trailer braking electrical wire from the motorhome. Thanks!

The reason you can't use the stop light circuit of the trailer wiring on your motorhome is because that circuit also carries the blinker signal. You have to find a dedicated stoplight circuit and that is why the install instructions recommend you find that under the hood of the towed vehicle.

I attached an install video that shows this getting installed in a similar Ford SUV as yours.
