Recommended Trunk-Mount Bike Carrier For 2004 Mazda RX-8 With Spoiler

Question:

Jeffrey, if I can bother you a bit more. We don’t think Becky is going to have the RX8 much longer. Is there a more economical carrier for it? If her car were newer, I would just get the Hollywood carrier, I guess and wonder if there is a good but cheaper alternative. Thanks.

We do have a bike rack that will work with your daughter's 2004 Mazda.

I recommend the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top Bike Carrier, part # HRF2. This bike rack is designed for vehicles that have a spoiler like the one on your daughter's RX-8. The high-rise frame extends up and over the spoiler and the carrier folds down for easy storage when not in use. This carrier has a weight capacity of 35 lbs per bike.

When carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.

For a less-expensive option you may want to check out the Saris Guardian 2 Bike Rack - Fixed Arms - Trunk Mount # SAR93FR. This is a 2-bike carrier and has many of the same great features as the Over-The-Top carrier. This bike carrier has been verified to fit the Mazda.
