I recommend installing a trailer hitch like part # 24880 on your Passat, and using a motorcycle trailer to carry your bike. None of the trailer hitches we offer are capable of handling a 550 lb motorcycle in a carrier. The trailer hitches we offer are all Class l hitches and have a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.
The ball mount I recommend for your hitch is part # 3590. Then for a 1-7/8 inch trailer ball I recommend part # 19256. For a 2 inch trailer ball I recommend part # 19258.
You would need a motorcycle trailer that will work with a Class l trailer hitch. You will want to make sure you do not exceed the towing weight capacity of your vehicle.
When towing a trailer you will need a trailer wiring harness if you do not already have one. The harness I recommend is part # C56374. This includes a converter which is needed for a vehicle that has separate lighting.

Hi Jefrrey. I have a 2013 Passat TDI diesel. What size trailer is ok to tow? Open carrier is fine. It’s mostly surfboards. Heaviest will be some of my vinyl and a bamboo bed frame. I dumped my ex so that’s at least have the tow capacity freed up. Thank you for any information
