Installing Hopkins Tow Bar Wiring Harness On 2012 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
Why do the instructions show the wiring on both sides of the silverado pickup? Do you need to plug in on only one side or both?

The instructions can be confusing because they show where the junction box is on both the driver and passenger side of the truck. You will only need one of the junction boxes, so I would recommend choosing the one that is easiest to get to.
You will disconnect the blue connector from the junction box and then replace it with the connector on the # HM56101 harness. The other connector on the harness plugs into the connector you removed from the truck junction box. You will then need to drill a hole in the frame and connect the white ground wire and run the harness up to the front of the truck. Make sure when you run the wires you avoid the exhaust or any moving parts.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
