Wiring Recommendation for Flat Towing a 1982 Jeep CJ 7 Laredo

Question:

I will be towing a 1982 Jeep CJ 7 behind a truck, Im not sure if I need to use a diode kit, to use the lights on the Jeep while towing. We did have a 2006 jeep that when we towed it all the running would work. What part would I have to order. Thank you

Good news, I can help you with your wiring needs.

First thing is to identify if your Jeep CJ-7 has separate or combined wiring. You will be able to tell this typically by if your taillight has an amber signal. I have linked a Help Article on wiring for your convenience.

The 4-diode kit from Roadmaster # RM-152 will work for both combined and separate wiring, but if you have separate wiring you won't have function of the amber blinkers with this kit. If you prefer to still have function of the blinkers, I recommend the Roadmaster 6-diode universal wiring kit # 154-792-118158, because it includes the taillight converter you need to use the blinkers as well.

Both of these diode systems will allow for you to safely transfer power from your vehicle to your towed vehicle without having to worry about any back-feeding of power.

To finish off the wiring to a connector, I recommend the Blue Ox 7-wire to 6-wire umbilical # BX88206. This electrical cord combo comes with a 6-pole connecter for your tow vehicle and the electrical cord to transfer power from your RV to your tow vehicle.
