Can Loctite Thread Sealant 545 be Used with Potable Water Systems
Question:
can loctite 545 be used on potable water systems
asked by: Don
Expert Reply:
Loctite Thread Sealant 545 # LT37482 is not designed for potable water systems and should not be used. There are chemicals in it that can be harmful if ingested. If joining copper pipes I recommend using solder to join non-threaded pieces and thread seal tape such as # A05-0265 on the threads of threaded pieces. Plumbers dope can be used on the plastic PVC-like pipes; available at hardware stores. If the PVC pipes are not threaded you should use primer and the appropriate adhesive for joining PVC.
