2-Wire to 3-Wire Converter for RV with Combined Lighting and Trailer with Separate Lighting
Question:
I have just purchased a new RV 2016 model that has a 7 pin blade socket pollak , I think and the turn signal and brake signals are as one. This is no good to me as I need the brake and turn signals to be separate. Is there an adaptor that I can simply plug in or do I have to trace the wire through and then cut and splice? I would have though that this was a fairly common problem? Your help would be appreciated many thanks

I have a solution for you, but there is not a plug-in adapter to convert your RV's taillights from combined wiring to separate wiring.
If you are pulling a trailer with separate lighting, you will want to use a 2-wire to 3-wire converter. I recommend the Tow Ready Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter # 118158. This system will install below the 7-way trailer connector # H20046 on the trailer. The converter will keep the trailer lights as a 3-wire, separate light system while they work from the 2-wire, combined lighting from the RV. It is best to install # 118158 somewhere it will be protected from moisture. Using a junction box, like # PK52248, can help protect the converter. I have attached a diagram showing how the trailer is wiring with the # 118158 converter.
If you are flat towing your vehicle behind your RV, you can use the 6-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles with Separate Lighting # 154-792-118158. This kit includes the diodes needed for a vehicle with a separate lighting, as well as the converter to keep the vehicle's lighting separate while getting signal from the RV's combined lighting system. I have also attached a diagram showing how the vehicle is wired with the # 154-792-118158 kit.
