Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 1989 Chevy K3500 with 10 Inch Deep Drop Bumper

Question:

1989 K3500 extended cab dually with 10 in deep tall bumper. Would like to pull at least 6000 lb trailer without weight distributing hitch. Will this hitch fit?

Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 41528 does indeed fit your 1989 Chevy K3500 truck with deep drop bumper. It is rated for 6,000 pounds gross trailer weight when not using weight distribution.

If you want a hitch that has a little more wiggle room in terms of capacity you can use # C15317 which is rated for 16,000 pounds when not using weight distribution. Be sure to check the capacity of your truck and go by whichever has the lower capacity; the hitch or the truck.

If you go with hitch # 41528 then I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

For the Curt hitch you can use ball mount # C45340 with 2 inch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16 inch ball # C40008.

If either ball mount above does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

For trailer wiring, if the extended cab is actually a 4-door crew cab then you can use # HM41115. If the truck is not a crew cab model use # 118315.
