Drop Shank Recommendation for Reese Weight Distribution When 5 inches of Drop Is Needed
Question:
I purchased a Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - RP66083 for my 2015 Ram 1500 and my 20 foot Haulmark Transport Trailer TST85X20WT2. The trailer specs call for a 20-inch ball height when level. Actual ball height for the trailer was 16-3/4 inches when level which put it 4-3/4 inches below the ball for the hitch bar that came with the RP66083 kit when it is set at its lowest position and the truck is level height from ground is 21-1/2 inches. When hooked up to the truck, the truck is level, but the trailer is not level. Also, the sway control brackets will not attach to the trailers A frame in the correct location due to a cross member spanning the frame so the sway control and cannot achieve the 19-inch dim from the middle of the trailer ball to the central pivot bolt on the anti-sway bar. Is there a different weight dis kit w anti-sway that I need to use or is the trailer just too low?

Expert Reply:
To tow your trailer level you will need to go with a drop shank that will put the ball height at the correct height. Since you need about 5 more inches of drop you would need the part # RP3344.
If your trailer does not allow for the Dual Cams of your # RP66083 to attach you could replace the chains of the system with the part # 55630. The U-bolt will attach directly to the spring bar and then will get connected to the chain hangers on your frame.
