Roof Cargo Basket Recommendation for a 2016 Subaru Forester with Subaru Crossbars

I am purchasing a 2016 subaru forester with a naked roof. I will likely get the subaru fixed crossbar set on top, however. Given the spread of the bars 33 I believe, but not certain, what roof cargo baskets can I put on these? I am thinking of the Thule, extended if possible. Will it fit and will it be safe? Subaru sells a Yakima roof carrier, but specifies that it is NOT for use with the fixed crossbar set. This has made me curious as to why...

The Thule Canyon XT roof basket part # TH859XT that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Subaru. It will fit crossbar spreads that are between 20 inches and 37 inches apart.

Some carriers do not have an open range of spread for crossbars. Some have a few set positions that are only conducive to adjustable bars.

The Thule extended carrier can be purchased two ways. You can order the main rack # TH859XT and the extension #TH8591XT, or you can order them together as one part # TH859XT-8591XT. The extension gives you 20 more inches of cargo space. The installation and fit is exactly the same. The load capacity of 150 pounds will also remain the same.
