Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2007 Ford Explorer
Question:
2007 4 door explorer v6 with 1-1/4inch hitch. Everything I have read so far says this truck and hitch is rated for 3500 lbs. I take it the braking system is built to handle this weight as well or do you need trailer brakes when at maximum weight?

If you were towing a trailer at or near the towing capacity I would recommend a brake controller. Often times the legal requirement will be based on your local DOT. Usually they will say that over a certain weight a trailer has to have brakes.
Your Explorer should have a factory 7-way harness so all you would need is the correct install harness. But first let's start with a brake controller.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
The install harness you would then need is the part # 3035-P.
If you happened to only have a 4-way you would instead of the 3035-P you would need the # ETBC7.
