Auto Slide Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 2500 Short Bed

Question:

I was wondering how much my 2014 Dodge Ram Mega Cab 2500 Laramie Diesel will tow in the fifth wheel mode. I get confused with payload and tongue weight. My truck specs say my payload is low like 1900 lbs.? and I think I can tow up to 15,000lbs ? I am interested in trading my 35ft travel trailer out for a new 2016 Open Range fifth wheel approx.. 13340 lbs.. Will a pull rite hitch work? will I need air bags since I dont have leaf springs on this truck, just coils? Will my low payload make me sag or does that not matter? If you folks could help, Id be grateful. Thank You,

The final authority on a vehicle's towing capacity will be in the owners manual. To get as specific of a towing capacity as you can possibly get you will need to get the Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating which means the max weight the vehicle can tow including the weight of the vehicle, it's cargo and the weight of the trailer loaded. You will then need to subtract the weight of the tow vehicle when it is loaded and ready to tow and the amount of capacity left over will be how heavy a trailer you can tow.

Your truck SHOULD have no problem towing a trailer that weighs 13,300 lbs, but you should still check to be sure.

I am sure there is a Pullrite hitch available that would work for you, but since we do not carry that brand the closest thing I would recommend is the Demco Hijacker setup that includes the rail kit part # DM6099 and the Auto Slide hitch part # DM8550034.

Since your truck is a 3/4 ton truck the weight of your trailer really shouldn't cause it to sag terribly.
