Recommended Trailer Hitch For Allego 35 Ft Motorhome To Tow Enclosed Trailer

Question:

We are new owners of an Allegra bus 35 foot. The blue ox tow system is highly recommended. Im towing a 22 ft enclosed trailer. Can I use a blue ox product to tow this?

A tow bar system like the Blue Ox, part # BX7380 is used for flat towing a vehicle behind an RV, motorhome, or another vehicle.

Since you said you are hauling an enclosed trailer, you will first need a trailer hitch on your Allegra. I recommend a trailer hitch like the Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 13703.

This hitch will work on motorhome or RV box frames, C-channel frames or I-beam frames from 22 inches to 72 inches wide. This hitch can be bolted to the frame or welded in place by a certified welding professional. This trailer hitch is a Class lll hitch with a 2 inch receiver opening, and has a gross trailer weight towing capacity of 3,500 lbs with a maximum tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. You will want to load about 15 percent of the total weight you are carrying in the trailer toward the front of the trailer to reduce trailer sway when towing.

You will need a ball mount and hitch ball to tow your trailer. The ball mount I recommend is part # D-4. This mount has a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop. If this ball mount does not work you can check out the attached link to the ball mounts we offer. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to choose a ball mount you can take a look at.

The hitch ball you need depends on the coupler you have on the enclosed trailer. For a 2 inch hitch ball I recommend part # 40038. If you need a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball I recommend part # C40051.

You will also need a hitch pin to secure the ball mount to the trailer hitch. We offer a standard pin and clip, part # C21500, or if you prefer to use a locking hitch pin for added security I recommend part # e98880.
