If your Land Cruiser was equipped with the factory installed 7-way trailer connector at the rear bumper, it will have the brake controller connector located under the dashboard. The connector will be taped to another wiring harness somewhere near the top of the emergency brake pedal. The connector will likely be covered with tape, so it could be difficult to locate. If you find a big ball of tape wrapped around a wiring harness, you've probably found it. The # 3040-P you've referenced is the correct connector for the vehicle.

If your Land Cruiser wasn't equipped with the factory 7-way trailer connector, it will NOT have a connector under the dash, and you'll need to hardwire the controller using our Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. The install kit includes a 4-pole to 7-way adapter, so if you don't already have a functioning 4-pole trailer connector, you'll need to install one using part # 119178KIT. The kit includes everything else needed to install a brake controller including wire, hardware, and circuit breakers.

I'll link you to the installation instructions for the ETBC7 kit, as well as to some FAQ articles that you'll find helpful. I've also linked you to a video showing the install kit being used to install a brake controller on a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. Although the video shows a different vehicle, the procedure on your Land Cruiser would be very similar.

Thanks for the tip on the Land Cruiser. We bought the 2001 LC new and has the towing package. I ordered you P3 controller from you to wire in the Brake capability. I have the service LC Toyota manuals but unfortunately it does not have a section show diagram of connection near what you word vividly describe. Any diagram if available would be appreciated. Thank you very much for your help. Cliff Singer PS I like your products....

@CliffS Does your Land Cruiser have the factory 7-way trailer connector? If not, it might not have the connector you're looking for. Unfortunately, we don't have any diagrams showing the location but the connector is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. The connector and the harness it's connected to is usually taped to another bundle of wires which can make the connector hard to find. In some instances it can be found behind the kick panel next to the driver's left ankle or just above the top of the kick panel.
