There are a few reasons why trailer tires fail. The primary cause is excessive heat build-up. Excessive heat build up can be caused by overloading the trailer, exceeding the speed rating of the tire and failing to keep the tires inflated to the full pressure indicated on the tire sidewall.

Be sure you're using the proper size and load rated tires. There should be an ID plate somewhere on the trailer showing the manufacturer's recommendations.

Trailer tires have a speed rating which should be listed on the tire sidewall. When this rating is exceeded, heat will build up in the tire rapidly causing it to deteriorate. The longer the speed rating is exceeded, the more the tire will deteriorate.

Unlike tires on a passenger tire which have an acceptable range of inflation, trailer tires should always be kept inflated to the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall. If the tires you're currently using are bias ply, keep in mind that radials typically run cooler.

Another remote possibility is the age of the tire and how your travel trailer is being stored when you're not using it. Tires have a life span of 6 or 7 years, even if they still have plenty of tread on them at that time. As they age, tires will deteriorate or dry rot. Constant exposure to UV rays (sunlight) can accelerate this deterioration. When storing your travel trailer, using tire covers like part # CAM45247 is highly recommended.
