Recommended Wiring Harness For 1989 Volvo 760 Turbo Wagon
Question:
Hi, I have an 89 760 Volvo Turbo Wagon. Is this kit the correct kit for my Volvo. part # C59236 My small cargo trailer has a flat 4 wire connector. I only want to do this job one time..and I was reading about if your volvo is a 2 wire or a 3 wire.... As far as I know..there is only one wiring system for 89 760 volvo Wagons. So Im thinking this is universal type connector kit. And I need to be positive, that we wont be guessing about how to get this installed. Guessing sucks. Your thoughts please. Thanks

Since your 1989 Volvo has separate wiring(meaning the brake and turn signals are sent along separate wires) I recommend the Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit, part # C59496.
To install this harness you will need access to the wiring behind each tail light. Starting on the left driver side, you will need to find a place to mount the converter box. Then, ground the white wire to a bare metal surface.
Next, you can use the included circuit tester to check the wires until you find the one that carries a signal for the left turn signal. You will then attach the yellow wire from the harness to this wire.
You can then do the same for the brake light wire. It connects to the red wire from the harness. Then connect the running light wire on the vehicle to the brown on the harness.
Then route the green wire form the harness over to the passenger side and connect the wire that carries a signal for the right blinker and connect the green wire from the harness to it.
Last, the black wire on the harness will need to be routed to the front of the Volvo and attached to the positive battery post using the included fuse holder.
the same installation method would be used for the Curt harness, part # C59236 that you mentioned, but we have had very good results with the Tow Ready kit. And it is a little more cost-effective which never hurts.
