Slider Hitch Recommendation for 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with 6-1/2 foot bed

Question:

I have a 2005 Silverado 2500hd duramax 6.6 and it has the towing package but i need to equip it with a 5th wheel hitch. The truck has a crew cab and a 6foot bed. Its also lifted 6 inches and has 30inch tires. Id like to have a hitch I can remove from the truck when its not in use. Id like to have a hitch that slides and I can adjust vertically. Im not exactly sure what the maximum towing weight is, but I believe its about 13,000 lbs. I want I hitch that can handle the maximum camper/trailer weight the truck can support. Can you give me an idea bout what something like that would cost and what I would need to do to my truck to make it work? thanks.

First thing you should note is that it can be pretty difficult to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a truck that has been lifted, especially one that has as big of tires and lift as yours. The reason is that you have to tow the trailer level and you also have to have 4-6 inches of clearance between the bed rails of the truck and the over hang of the trailer.

Basically you would have to have a very tall sitting fifth wheel trailer to be able to accomplish both of those things I mentioned and tow with your truck. Or, you could return your truck back to stock ride height.

For an underbed setup confirmed to fit your truck you would want to go with a Demco Hijacker hitch setup. This hitch will automatically slide around corners for cab clearance and since the rails install under the bed you can remove the hitch easily when not in use for full access to your bed. For the rails you would want the part # DM8551004, and then for the hitch part # DM8550022.
