Towing Capacity for the Draw-Tite 75338 For 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

It looks like this hitch applies more torque on the frame of the car then towing than OEM version. It is further from the frame than the OEM part. This can potentially twist the frame on higher load. Does this factor affect the hitchs towing capacity or has it been explored at all?

When Draw-Tite set the towing capacities of the hitch part # 75338 they factored in the amount of torque that would get applied to the frame of the vehicle when it is installed. They also factor in the install points on the vehicle that get used. The capacity for this hitch is:

Maximum gross trailer weight: 5,000 lb
Maximum GTW when used with weight distribution: 7,500 lbs
Maximum tongue weight: 750 lb
Maximum TW when used with weight distribution: 750 lbs
