What is the Correct Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2000 Lexus RX300 so All Functions on Trailer Work
Question:
I have a 2000 Lexus RX300 the trailer is equipped with a 4 post connector white - ground, yellow - L turn signal, green - R turn signal and brown - driving/running lights. Unfortunately I cant afford a harness but I have everything working that is allowed by the 4 post connector as shown on the diagram that I did purchase…. The problem is they dont show anything about the brake lights or back-up lights. I purchased the PA6505721 Litemate 48205 connector. I dont get it… there isnt enough wires to operate all the functions/equipment on the trailer with only 4 post!?

The brake lights on the trailer use the same wire as the turn signals. If your trailer had reverse lights, it would have at least a 5-Flat connector. Since it only has a 4-Flat, you will have both turn signals, brake lights, and running lights, but no reverse lights. A 4-Flat connector is the standard for trailers and reverse lights are not common on most small utility trailers.
Installing a regular 4-Flat connector on the Lexus will not work because it uses separate wires for turn signals and brake lights.
The correct wiring harness for your 2000 Lexus RX300 is the Wiring, # C59496. This harness includes a powered, circuit protected converter that converts your RX300 3 wire system down to a 2 wire system used on the trailer. Since this unit requires a direct connection to the vehicle battery, it protects your vehicles sensitive wiring. I have included a link to the installation details below.
