The adapter we offer for a vehicle with a 4-way flat to tow a trailer with a 7-way blade is a connector like # 30717. Using a connector like this will not provide use of the trailer brakes, 12V power source, or reverse lights. The 4-way connector only provides tail lights, brake lights, and left and right turn signals.

The only way to gain use of these functions is to fully install the 7-way. With the # 30717 connector, the white wire will need to be grounded to provide function to the connector. We recommend that grounds be located on the vehicle frame.

If you do not want to install the ground wire on the tow vehicle, you could hardwire your own custom adapter. You can use a trailer end 4-way connector, like the # HM48110, and connect it to a 7-way blade connector, like # PK12-707E. If the 7-way connector on your trailer is a 7-way round pin connector, you could us a vehicle end connector like # PK11720 to create your adapter.

Since the 4-way flat connector on your tow vehicle will not provide you with power to use your trailer's brakes, I recommend checking local laws in regards to towing to ensure that you can legally tow your trailer without brakes.
