Will 27K Reese M5 5th Wheel Hitch Mount Into Pucks on 2012 Silverado Used for 20K Hitch
Question:
I have an Reese M5 20K fifth wheel hitch in my 2012 Silverado 3500 HD dually with an 8foot bed. It is installed with the under the bed rail system. We are purchasing an large toyhauler which will require a heavier hitch. Will the 27000 lb M5 work with the under the bed rail system currently installed for my 20000 lb hitch or will I need a heavier rail system? Is the footprint the same for both hitches with respect to the 4 attachment pucks, i.e. can I remove the 20K hitch and simply lock in the 27K hitch? Thanks for your assistance.

Expert Reply:
Yes, the Reese M5 Series Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch, # RP30922, and the 20K Reese Elite Hitch, # RP30921, both use the same under bed rail system so the new hitch will mount directly into the pucks on your 2012 Chevrolet Silverado that were previously used for the 20K hitch. Just remove your 20K hitch, lock in the 27K hitch and you are ready to go.
