No Left Trailer Brake Light Signal From tow Package of 2005 Chevy Silverado

Question:

Ok, for starters I have already replaced the flasher unit lcm under steering wheel. There is no left brake voltage to trailer harness, there is however power for blinker, running lights and flashers. Would just like to know where to start, these three bulb tail lights are driving me crazy!! Thanks much

The tow package on your truck should carry the left turn/brake signal on a single circuit. If you're getting the left turn signal on the trailer, but no brake lamp, it would rule out a fuse as being the problem. You'd need to see a mechanic to get the problem straightened out.

However, if it were my vehicle, I'd be hesitant to spend that kind of money on a 10 year old vehicle, when you can simply bypass the tow package wiring using a hardwired converter like part # C59496. Install the harness by tapping it's inputs into the taillight wiring harnesses behind the taillight assemblies. The yellow wire taps into the left turn, the brown wire taps into the running lamp, the green wire taps into the right turn, and the red and the white wires would ground to the truck frame. The black wire would be ran to the positive battery terminal.

As for the outputs on the converter, cut off the 4-pole. Then peel back the wire loom on the harness feeding your 7-way. Cut the dark green, yellow and brown and white wires. Connect the converter outputs to the like colored wires leading to the 7-way connector. By making this bypass, you're getting the signals from the truck taillight assemblies, and the power for the trailer lights from the vehicle battery. This will provide a reliable connection for your trailer lights.
