How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2006 Nissan Murano

There is no need to remove the dash to install a brake controller. You will have to run 3 wires through the firewall and into the engine bay, but you can probably find a grommet that already has wires running into the engine bay to do this.

Since the Murano was not built with a factory trailer connector with the provision of a brake circuit, you will need to add one, usually a 7-Way.

We have a complete 7-Way and Brake Controller install kit, part # ETBC7. It requires that the vehicle have a properly function 4-Way connector to build on. If you do not already have one, the proper 4-Way for your 2006 Murano is part # V30204.

The ETBC7 will plug into your 4-Way, then you will connect the 4 loose wire leads. The purple wire will need to be spliced to the reverse light circuit on your Murano, only if the trailer has reverse lights. The white wire needs to be connected to a good ground point on the vehicle frame. The blue and black wire need to be connected to the included length of jacketed 2-wire. The black lead needs to be connected to the positive battery terminal with the 40 amp breaker in-line. The blue needs to be run to the blue wire off the brake controller.

Now that the 7-Way is installed, you can wire in the brake controller. Again the blue on the brake controller needs to be wired to the blue wire on the 7-Way. The white wire needs to go to the negative terminal of the battery. The black wire needs to be run to the positive terminal on the battery with a 20 or 30 amp breaker depending on controller model. Finally the red wire needs to be connected to the wire coming off the brake pedal switch that only goes hot when the pedal is pressed.
