Pilot 39518 Brake Controller No Longer Lighting Up After Not Being Used for 3 Years
Question:
I dont think its working since the digital lights dont come on. With or without the Trailer connected. It worked about 3 years ago which was the last time I towed a trailer. any suggestions?

I would say given that your brake controller is not lighting up or working and it has been 3 years since it was used it is likely time to replace the controller. You can test the controller though if you want. First check to see if the controller is getting power on the black wire using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993.
Also make sure the ground wire (white) is good. If the controller is hardwired in the ground wire should be attached to the negative battery terminal. Check for corrosion and re-establish a good ground.
If the controller is not getting any power, then it could be the wiring to it or a fuse or circuit breaker (depending on how the controller was installed) may need to be replaced.
You can also fully apply the manual override and let it snap back into place several times to clean the contacts on the inside. I have included some links on testing and troubleshooting brake controllers as well.
