Helpful Expert Reply:
All of the trailer hitches for the 2014 Mazda 6 are Class I trailer hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers. The only way to use a 2 inch cargo carrier would be to use an adapter # HTAD. The problem with using an adapter is that it reduces the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent from 200 to just 100 pounds. This means the combined weight of the carrier and cargo cannot exceed 100 pounds.
A better solution is to install a trailer hitch, # C11356, and then use a Class I compatible carrier such as # C18145 rated for 200 pounds on a Class I hitch, minus the 29 pound weight of the carrier for a grand total of 171 pounds you could put on the carrier and still be within the capacity.
