Can 4-Way Trailer Connector be Routed to the Outside of a 2009 Toyota RAV4
Question:
I have a 2009 Toyota RAV4. Im installing a T-Connector, either Two-Ready #118412 or Curt harness #C5165, along with ETBC7 Universal Brake Controller Kit. Question 1: Id like to route the 4-flat connector on the T-Connector from the drivers side storage compartment directly to the outside of the vehicle so I can connect it from underneath the vehicle semi-permanently to the ETBC7, rather than run it out the rear door internally from the storage compartment. Is there a good way to run the 4-flat through the body to the outside? Its a pretty big connector. Can I make a slit in the same grommet that the T-Connectors black battery lead goes through and slide the 4-flat cable into it? Well, I know I can, but should I? Question 2: Since Im installing both parts at the same time I can run the T-Connectors power lead and the gray cable from ETBC7 together to the front of the vehicle. Do you have any additional considerations or suggestions when routing these two cables at the same time?

Expert Reply:
To route that 4-Way connector from the interior of your 2009 Toyota RAV4 to the exterior you can cut a slit in the grommet. After everything is installed though be sure to seal it back up using some silicone such as # 0160297 so moistures and fumes don't get inside the vehicle.
You can run all the power/brake output wires at the same time. If you wanted to you could also use the 12 volt power wire for the # ETBC7 for the regular 4-Way harness. But since you are running wires anyway you might as well keep them separate for better circuit protection.
I have included a link to a help article with tips on routing wires that might also be helpful.
