Recommended Replacement Motor For Landing Gear With Atwood 75721

Question:

I have a 36foot Prairie schooner 5th wheel. Earlier this year the follow leg on the landing gear was clicking an not holding the full weight. I replaced the gears in that leg and it seems to be fine. Now there is a clicking noise on the lead leg motor and gear side when it is under load. I thought it was probably the gear box, but have found that if I use the manual crank in addition to the electric motor it will raise the trailer just fine. Because the crank is helping turn the motor before the gear box this makes me suspect the motor is having a problem not the gear box. The gear box is a venture gear box, but I discovered the motor is an Atwood motor model 75721. Would the motor be the problem here? If so what motor would you recommend to replace it. Is this a 5500 lb motor or 6500 lb motor?

It sounds like the clutch in the motor may be failing on your Atwood landing gear. It may be slipping which is causing the clicking sound. Since you said helping the motor with the manual crank helps the gear box will not be the problem.

The replacement motor you need is part # LG-142178. This will attach directly to the gear box you have and would be a great fit.

I called my contact at Atwood and they told me the legs of the landing gear are what the weight capacity is based off of and not the motor and this motor will work well for you.
