Does Trailer Have to be Connected to Tow Vehicle to Install Friction Sway Control Bar
Question:
Is it necessary for the trailer to be connected to the tow vehicle when installing this system? The ball will mount on the center of the frame 24inch back from the coupler, so I wasnt sure if it was necessary to be connected to the tow vehicle or not. Also, can just the ball plate be mounted with the self tapping screws by itself or do you have to also used the spacer plate? Thanks so much

When installing a friction sway control unit such as # 17200 the trailer does not have to be connected to the tow vehicle. You will just need to follow the instructions which I have linked for reference to position the trailer-mounted components in the right place on the trailer. I have also linked a video review for you.
The spacer plate ensures that the end of the unit on the trailer is in the correct position so you would want to use it.
