How to Wire a Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller # 39510 in 2005 Ford F-150
Question:
I hooked up the two white wires which are grounds ,the black wire on the f150 side is live so I hooked it up to the wire green with black stripe coming from the controller. now though the yellow wire with the red strip coming from the controller is now live all the time.is this the way it is suppose to work and do I just join it to red from the f150 wiring ,all is left then is a solid green wire coming from controller and a blue wire from the f150 plugin.and will I just join them alst. thanks

The easiest way to install a Tekonsha trailer brake controller like the Voyager # 39510 in your 2005 Ford F-150 that has a factory 7-way is to use wiring adapter # 3035-P. This plugs in between the controller and the under-dash port as shown in the linked installation video at the 20-second mark. No cutting or splicing of wires is required.
If you are doing a hard-wired installation the four wires from the Voyager will connect to the truck wiring as follows:
Controller Black wire (12V input power) connects to battery positive post through a 30-amp circuit breaker like # PK54230 from Pollak.
Controller Red wire (brake input signal) connects to the COLD side of the brake light switch located above the brake pedal; this is the wire that carries a signal ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed and at no other time. You can find this wire most easily by using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 since wire colors used by auto makers are not consistent. Most often this wire will be light green.
Controller White wire (ground) connects to a bare metal surface on the truck or directly to the battery negative post.
Controller Blue wire (brake output signal for trailer) gets routed to the 7-way trailer socket on the back of the truck, to the pin at the 5-o-clock position as you look at the socket from the rear of the truck. Please refer to the linked photo.
