That is quite the price for a brake controller installation. I would think a local mechanic could get the job done at a lower price.

To install a brake controller in your 2011 Hybrid Toyota Highlander, you will want a wiring harness and our universal installation kit in addition to a brake controller. For a wiring harness, I recommend using the Tow Ready Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118449. This custom wiring harness will plug into your vehicle's existing factory wiring. The converter box installs under the dash, the 4-way connector plugs in under the floor of the trunk, and a fuse is installed in the fuse box in the engine compartment. I have attached the installation details and an installation video of this wiring harness for you.

In order for the trailer brakes to function, you will also need our universal installation kit # ETBC7. This kit comes with a 4- and 7-way connector, circuit breakers, wire connectors, duplex cable, and all other necessary hardware to install the kit. I have attached a help article on how to install this kit for you.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. This brake controller offers a easy-to-read LCD display for roadside troubleshooting. The controller can be mounted within a 360-degree vertical range. Unfortunately, there isn't a plug in custom adapter for your vehicle. This means you will hardwire the universal pigtail adapter into your vehicle's wiring. The red wire connects to the stoplight switch wire, the white wire is grounded, the black wire is the 12v power wire and will connect to a breaker and then the positive battery cable, and the blue wire is connected to the blue trailer brake wire that comes from the 7-way connector at the rear. I have attached an installation video of this brake controller in a 2010 Highlander. This video also shows the installation of an ETBC7 kit.

Your Highlander Hybrid will work with these products. The brake controller specifically said that it will work with hybrid models.
